Quepos and Manuel Antonio are two separate but interdependent central Pacific coast towns. Quepos has about 7,000 permanent residents, a large hospital, banks, stores, hotels, markets, bars, restaurants and a main bus terminal
Quepos is the small town just north of Manuel Antonio. The town gets it's name from the Quepoa Indian tribe. Because of disease brought over by the Europeans, warfare and slavery, there were no pure blooded Quepoa left by the turn of the 19th century. Quepos came to prominence as a banana exporting port. Due to the disease, African palm oil replaced bananas as the major local crop. By the mid 60s a road was built from San Jose. By 1980, a colony of Americans had built homes and begun businesses in Manuel Antonio. Today, Manuel Antonio is a mix of expatriates from around the world as well as a group of locals hanging around for the ``Pura Vida.``
Once in Quepos, Manuel Antonio Costa Rica you will also have the chance to enjoy yourself with a myriad of extracurricular activities.
These include , sport fishing, international cuisine, horseback riding , bars and discos.
And if you tire of those, you may want to consider the river rafting, expeditions in kayaks, surfing, snorkeling, bird and butterfly watching, quiet beaches and astounding sunsets.
